A year ago yesterday Jake and I found out we were having twins. I was hoping to spend the day hanging out with the girlies laughing and playing. Sydney decided to throw us for a loop and have another apnea episode. She was doing her breathing treatment with Daddy while I was in the family room with the social worker from Hospice. She started turning very pail and then blue. We rushed her back to the nursery and put her on oxygen while the nurse tried to stimulate her. The ambulance came, but by the time they got here we had her pretty stable. We went ahead and went to the ER just to check her oxygen levels. We have decided to get some Oximeters just so that we can keep an eye on their levels at all times.
When it happened all I kept thinking was that it was all too soon. We were just diagnosed a week and a half ago and I didn’t expect things to move this quickly. I was completely unprepared. I will say that the people at Hospice are amazing! The social worker drove to the hospital to sit with me and she also called our caseworker to come and talk to the doctors to make sure we were getting what we needed. We are hoping to be prescribed a medicine that will help dry up their secretions. We think that a bit of congestion, along with the nebulizer breaking up gunk is what led to this episode. We are stopping the breathing treatments for a while and keeping them on oxygen full time just to be on the safe side. Our appointment with pulmonology is on Tuesday so maybe they will have some more instruction for us.
On another note, I don’t think the Dreamrider car beds will work for us because they must be kept behind the passengers seat and we only have one row of seats in the Torrent.
This morning both the girls are full of smiles and I caught Carynne trying to pull on Sydney’s ear…probably getting ready to tell her a secret.
